With riders from 5 nations, the event was hosted in Valle Nevado, Chile and it assigned to the best Chilean riders tickets to the Protest World Rookie Fest 2011 in Livigno, Italy, and to the Protest World Rookie Finals 2011 in Ischgl, Austria. The rookie’s slopestyle consisted of two obstacles with rail and boxes, one jump and one transfer kicker. For the grom category, from 6 to 14 years old, an additional line with smaller obstacles was realized. Among the male rookies Sven Thorgren from Sweden resulted the best, followed by Italian rising star Marco Grigis and local hero Andre Escobar who got a ticket for the Protest World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, Austria. The best male grom was Santiago Gonzales (CHI) while among the girls Roberta Irarrazaual (CHI) who won and invitation to Protest World Rookie Fest in Livigno, Italy. The event was previously postponed for bad weather conditions from the 14 to 21 august. During that week, the EU Rookie Squad enjoyed a week of trips and shootings around Chile with skate and artificial wave surf sessions, visits of cultural and traditional locations and some slashy backcountry riding. Italian freesurfer Eugenio Barcelloni, who is spending 2010 in Chile, invited the crew to a secret Big Wave surf session in Pichicuy were living legends Ramon Navarro and Greg Long conquer a “never surfed before” 10 meters wave. The summertime event was held up at 7,000-feet in the Camp of Champions park on the Blackcomb glacier and featured a massive 75-foot gap jump. The event featured 40 riders going for a piece of the $50,000 prize purse and 850 TTR ranking points. It was an all-Canadian podium and Sebastien Toutant (CAN) took the top spot making him $20,000 richer. Toutant also secured an automatic invite to the Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck. All the riders were pulling off some impressive tricks all day and it came down to a double cork 1260 race for the podium with all three riders doing different variations of the trick. Toutant won the first place podium spot with a flawless Cab 1260 double cork and had this to say about his win, “Winning the first 5Star TTR big air contest was just amazing, it was an epic final and it’s sick because I’ll be leading in the TTR ranking going down to New Zealand in August.” Coming in second place behind Toutant and winning $15,000 was Matts Kulisek (CAN) who landed a backside 1260 double cork and Mark McMorris (CAN) took third place earning $10,000 for his frontside 1260 double cork. Today, June 25th, was the first day of camp so there were tons of kids heading up to shred the park in the summer sun. Practice for the Ante Up main event was also happening with some heavy hitters sessioning the 75+foot gap-jump making for a pretty sweet first day up on the glacier. Chas Guldemond, Seb Toots, Mark McMorris and Scotty Lago were all looking pretty solid, especially since some of these guys haven’t been on snow for a little while. In total there were 30 riders in the semifinals and it quickly became clear that that the standard of the finals would be sick! The semifinals were in a 1hrs 30min session and rider’s worth mention was the young gun Sven Thorgren who threw down a huge crazy double chuck flip on the corner! Zebastian Landmark and Ton Ton Holland was two other riders worth mentioning with their big stylish riding and Zebastians huge double flips on the kicker. The finals were held in the afternoon. After a two run final with the best run counting it was the up and coming youngster Niklas Mattsson how performed a solid run including a BS double cork 10 which gave him the first place and 10.000 US dollars. The second place went to Kevin Bäckström and third place to Ludwig Leijkner. In the TTR 3Star for girls there was a tight battle for the podium places but in the end it was Cissi Cavretti who took the top spot. Overall the event has been a huge success with happy faces everywhere! More than 30 riders had showed up to fight for the money, TTR points, loads of prizes and of course the Semi final spot in Piststilen by Rip Curl presented by Skullcandy -Ramundberget 27/4-2/5. In the TTR 1-star snowboard event it was super high standard and we saw for ex sw Double back flips among other tech tricks. The judges with pro snowboarder Jonathan Nilsson as main judge had a hard time to pick the riders for the Final but in the end following 6 riders were picked to battle for the podium spots: Blayze Bramwell, Anton Bilare, Mats Frisk, Matteus Lestage-König, Nils Arvidsson, Måns Hedberg. The riders in the final had 2 runs eash to impress the judges and the one who impressed them the most with a super solid riding was Blayze Bramwell who took the 1st place. Over the course of two days, some of the most important international riders from countries such as Finland, Spain, Andorra, France, Sweden and Austria dominated the slopestyle with an astounding display of style and double corks. The riding level was high and kids coming from all around the world confirmed that the progression of snowboarding is happening. Diana Augustinova and Sebbe De Buck are the winners of the Groms and Katarzyna Rusin and Roope Tonteri the winners of the rookie’s categories. The girls, despite being less than boys impressed the judges and the boys too! Girls showed their skills on the M course of the Swatch Mottolino Snowpark, while boys where attacking the L and XL lines. The winning girls of the Groms category are: Diana Augustinova(CZE), Maria Delfina Maiocco (IT) and Noemi Valloray (IT). In the rookie’s category Katarzyna Rusin (POL) take the lead of Nora Thompson (NOR) who took second place, and Marika Enne (FIN) who finished in third place.
